You have made an attempt at something that was important to you. You stumbled and fell. Maybe you made another attempt, and you stumbled and fell again. Someone in your audience - perhaps a friend or a significant other - has the opinion that you're headed in the wrong direction and you should just give up. After all, why keep putting energy and other resources into something that just isn't working out? When you're down, you need to be around those who will pull you up, not keep you down.
